Posted on

You can remember all of the different ways that you can care for your teeth, gums and mouth easily if you just remember T-O-O-T-H. Here is what T-O-O-T-H stands for:

Tools: Make sure you always have the right dental care tools with you so you can always take care of your teeth each day the way you should. The tools that you need to always have access to include a quality toothpaste, a good toothbrush, floss, mouthwash, a water pick, and sugarless gum. The sugarless gum should be kept on you at all times so you can chew it anytime you are out and about and have just eaten The gum will remove the food particles and bacteria immediately from your teeth.

Oral care: Learn about the proper way to brush your teeth which is in a circular motion and make sure you get all surfaces of your teeth. Floss after you eat every meal. Use mouthwash at night and don't drink anything for a while after you use it so it can do its job.

Orthodontic care: Anytime you have concerns over the way your child's teeth are coming in or you are concerned your teeth aren't straight, you should get an appointment with an orthodontist who can get you started on the proper straightening treatment as soon as possible since the treatments take time before they are completed.

Trauma care: Do your best to prevent injuries by protecting your mouth. Don't use your teeth as tools for opening bottles or other packages. Also, wear a mouth guard anytime you are participating in a sport or another hobby that will put your mouth at an increased risk of injury. If you are involved in risky activities then have a dental emergency kit with you. If you do injure a tooth then make sure you get in for treatment immediately.

Health care: One of the best things that you can do for the health and well being of your teeth is to make sure you take care of your overall health. You want to make sure you are getting the right amount of vitamins out of your daily diet and make sure you are getting the proper amount of things like calcium and Vitamin C. The healthier you are, the better your chances will be of keeping your teeth healthy as well. Along with eating properly, adding a good multivitamin into your diet may be a good idea.
